chi siamo

about us.

After completing our degrees at the University of Wollongong in 2018 we spent close to a year in Italy, fulfilling all the clichés attached with it. We picked olives in Tuscany and grapes in the Alba region. We milked cows and made cheese and learnt every pasta under the sun. We did volunteer work throughout most regions of Italy and were fascinated by the food and the culture and history surrounding it. We watched dishes and techniques change as we went region to region, from Malloreddus gnocchi in Sardinia, Risotto in Lombardy, Bolognese in Emilia Romagna to Orecchiette in Puglia. Each region has a dish that is their heart and soul, and that could spark a heated and passionate argument if thought of otherwise. We steered clear of large cities, spending most of our time in small villages splatted along hillsides and tucked into nooks and crannies all along the country side. This is where the real heart of Italian cooking lies. Where the food comes from the garden, the wine homemade from a friend down the street and where you somehow fit 20 people onto a very small dining table. This is where we really fell in love with Italy, around a dining table with beautiful people and beautiful food. It is a wholesome experience like no other.

After returning home from nearly a year in Italy we wanted to find a way to re-live our experiences, and one of our most memorable experiences was the food. We flew into Perth, bought a van and two tiny portable wood-fired ovens and spent a few weeks driving back home and getting use to using the ovens. Once back in my hometown of Forster, we started selling Neapolitan styled pizzas at local markets. This time was really crucial for where we are now, we met encouraging, supportive people and discovered a world of amazing local homemade, hand grown produce that was right under our noses and we had no idea! Most of which is now on our menu. When the opportunity arose to continue sharing our food experiences of Italy in a restaurant setting we couldn’t say no. Which leads us to now – Pezzella’s Pizzeria e Bar, a place for wholesome food, wholesome conversations, and an authentic taste of Italy.
